Top Scholarships Indian Students Should Know Before Applying
Scholarship eligibility is rarely announced clearly on a university's main admissions page — it's often buried in a separate PDF, or only mentioned when a counsellor brings it up. That gap costs Indian families crores in avoidable fees every admission cycle.
Merit-based waivers reward more than just toppers
Most people assume merit scholarships require a 95%+ score. In reality, many private universities offer tiered merit waivers starting from 75–80%, with the discount scaling up from there. Always ask for the full tier chart, not just the top bracket.
Entrance exam percentile can unlock waivers independent of board marks
If you've taken JEE, CUET, or a university-specific entrance test, your percentile in that exam can qualify you for a scholarship even if your board exam percentage doesn't clear the standard cutoff. This is one of the most commonly missed opportunities.
EWS, defense, and sports quotas often stack
Depending on the university's policy, category-based waivers (Economically Weaker Section, defense/paramilitary family, sports quota) can sometimes be combined with a smaller merit waiver. It's always worth asking explicitly whether stacking is allowed rather than assuming it isn't.
Deadlines are often earlier than the admission deadline itself
A university's general admission window might stay open for months, but its scholarship application often closes weeks earlier. Missing that internal deadline — even if you're otherwise eligible — can mean paying full fees for no reason.
Our counsellors screen every applicant against merit, EWS, sports, defense, and university-specific scholarship categories as a standard part of the free counselling call — so eligibility never depends on you happening to ask the right question.
